Thing 13~ K12 Online Conference
I attended the presentation titled:
Getting Started
“What Did You Do in School Yesterday, Today, and Three Years Ago?”
H Songhai Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
This presentation looked at some very practical ways that students can use cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and a number of free Web based tools to document, organize and archive just about every important aspect of their high school career. It was definitely worthwhile, and high school teachers could really benefit from this session.
The main points focused on using the aforementioned gadgets as learning tools, instead of “frivolous” time wasting gadgets. The presentor did a great job at teaching the students how to make their docomentation of college campus visits worthwhile with personal learning networks, such as pageflix and igoogle.
I could definitely use some of the ideas from this presentation, such as using digital cameras on field trips, and creating a video project as a culminating assiggnment. I could see myself encouraging my future students, even at the fourth grade level, to create and start a blog. It is a great way to preserve their educational journey.
Of course I really liked the anytime delivery of it, as I just put on my pj’s. Although, I still very much enjoy face to face contact when learning, this was very informative, and I didn’t have to travel
